Antiparos is the quieter alternative to its more touristy neighbour, Paros, which is less than 2km to the east with only a shallow strait separating the two. It is a small island, only 11 km in length, but its long coastline has plenty of lovely beaches offering a wide variety of enjoyment. The beaches on the eastern side of the island, which look across to Paros, enjoy calm, shallow and crystal clear waters which are ideal for swimming and especially good for children. From the main town and port of Charos, which boasts a fifteenth century Venetian castle, you can head south to the twin beaches of Psaraliki 1 and 2. Here there are plenty of tourist facilities such as sunbeds, tavernas, pedal boats and even a couple of music clubs. About 1km further south is the beautiful sandy beach of Panaglia. There is also a popular beach just outside the town which has camping facilities and is also popular with nudists. In the south of the island you can watch the sun set from the lovely beach of Vathys Volos, close to Agios Georgios. From here it is possible to take a boat trip to the nearby deserted Despotico island, spending a few hours, or the whole day, on its quiet beaches and arrange to be picked up later. One sight not to be missed is the Cave of Antiparos which is about 9 km from Charos. This cave is about 100 metres deep and has an impressive display of stalactites and stalagmites. Antiparos can only be accessed via the thirty minute ferry ride from Paros, which itself is a 3-4 hour ferry ride from Athens.
